Blending K-pop culture with retro pixel art in an original indie game experience

K-Rush is a K-pop–themed pixel game I developed and designed independently. The project combined my interests in music, art, and interactive design, allowing me to create a fully original game experience from the ground up.

Visuals

I created all visual assets in Aseprite, drawing inspiration from retro pixel art. The characters were based on famous K-pop animal mascots, each adapted into a playable sprite with their own style. A pastel and bright color palette was chosen to match the upbeat feel of pop music while keeping the visuals easy to read during gameplay.


Animation

Animations were refined frame-by-frame to make character movements smooth, expressive, and full of personality. Each animation was tested in context to make sure it complemented the gameplay flow.


Game Development

Built in the Godot engine as a retro-style platformer, the game included core mechanics like movement, collisions, customization, and level progression. I coded each feature to balance challenge and accessibility, then iterated through playtesting to fine-tune difficulty.
